New FCC direction means improvements are on the way for consumers and competitive telecommunications providers.
Atlanta, GA – August 10, 2009 - Birch Communications praised the recent U.S. Senate confirmation of both FCC Commissioners Meredith Atwell Baker and Mignon Clyburn, who join newly appointed Chairman Julius Genachowski to complete the new FCC.
“Birch Communications is excited to move forward with a new FCC now that all of the new commissioners have been confirmed. Each of the commissioners brings both public service work and private industry entrepreneurial experience,” said Vincent M. Oddo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Birch Communications. “Small business consumers can look forward to greater innovation and opportunity from the new direction we expect to witness from this newly appointed and mandated FCC.”
“This FCC has a great task ahead in the next legislative session and these individuals are ideally suited to steer communications decisions forward for consumers and the telecommunications industry,” said Christopher Bunce, Vice President and General Counsel of Birch Communications. “In this economy small business owners will be looking to this FCC to foster competitive telecommunications and create greater opportunities for consumers in their telecommunications decisions.”
Birch was founded in 1996, thanks to the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which broke the local telephone monopoly. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the first successful overhaul of telecom regulation in 62 years, making the FCC the chief policy-making guardian of free competition in the U.S. communications industry. Since its inception, Birch has worked tirelessly to ensure small and medium-sized businesses benefit from the low prices and high quality service that only competitive markets can provide.
